Tulsa home remodeling company hiring crew members amid pandemic

TULSA, Okla. — Unemployment in Oklahoma decreases each week, but about 80,000 people are still without a job.

2 Works for You is highlighting a company that started small 42 years ago doing siding and windows. Now, as demand grew due to the coronavirus pandemic, business is booming.

Burnett Home Improvement said they used to make a few hundred thousand dollars a year, but hit company records this summer. Last month, they made nearly $700,000. They said the increase is because people are at home, restless, with no places to vacation.

So they’ve seen people spending extra funds on remodeling their home.

Vice President Shawn Donahue has been with the company for almost two years and wants to encourage people to apply. Their faith-based company prides itself on treatment and fairness.

Burnett Home Improvement employee Vasilik Napelenok said, “Most of the people are Christian here, so I think that’s really what matters to me. I know these people are not going to lie, they are going to be honest… that’s one of the best things about working here.”

Donahue’s main job is to make sure the company’s crew members stay happy because they wouldn’t have the business or reputation they have today without them.

“If anybody is willing to learn, we are always willing to give them a shot. We always want to do our best by people, we want to give everyone the opportunity to succeed, whether that be here, or somewhere else,” Donahue said.

Donahue said anybody looking for work should apply.

To apply, call this number (918) 215-8897, or go to their website for more information.

Girls with Power Tools remodeling company gives homes, communities a facelift

Ruth Haller was on her hands and knees, crawling as she pulled the heavy-duty construction material up from the floor of the home she is remodeling in Barrio Logan.

“As you can see, it’s not glamorous,” she said of the work.

The teacher-turned-renovator now runs a home-remodeling company called Girls with Power Tools with her friend, Pamela Macias.

The pair have been working on the South 26th Street home for more than a month. They plan to finish next week and place the 1930s Craftsman up for sale.

The work is not all for profit.

The Girls with Power Tools proprietors plan to use 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the home to purchase laptop computers for students in the neighborhood or in other parts of San Diego. They are also considering purchasing wireless internet cards for needy families.

Haller will dedicate another 10 percent to Guitars in the Classroom, a Mission Valley nonprofit that trains educators on using music to enhance education.

Haller said it feels wonderful to give back to the community where she started her teaching career, and where she feels at home. She spent nearly nine years at Emerson-Bandini Elementary, which is less than two miles from the house on South 26th Street. Later she transferred to Webster Elementary.

“I love coming back to the neighborhood I started in … being here … it just feels good to go down the street every day and see everything that I love about being Mexican,” Haller said.

Macias and Haller started their home-renovation company earlier this year, after flipping four other properties independently.

Macias was a Realtor and eviction agent before she began helping clients with distressed properties by renovating the homes.

With the pandemic in full swing, and a temporary ban on evictions, there

Arlington Roofing Company, Priority Home Repair, Responds To Season Change Repair Needs – Press Release

Arlington Roofing Company, Priority Home Repair, Responds To Season Change Repair Needs

The Priority Home Repair company offers a menu of services that help to prepare houses for the upcoming winter season with its storms. The pros take care of roofing repairs and many handyman tasks with precision and skill.

Priority Home Repair is pleased to announce that they have the tools and skills to step in when the number and complexity of tasks associated with home maintenance become overwhelming. The Arlington roofing company will inspect and repair the building roof so that rain and wind do not make a minor leak worse. They can make repairs to eaves, gutters, and soffits as needed to stop leaks and further damage. The roofing project’s size and complexity don’t matter to the professionals; they complete projects of all types.

Another typical project that many homeowners don’t have the skills or equipment to handle is cleaning the windows on the exterior of the building. Multi-level structures require ladders or scaffolding, which is not typically part of the equipment owned by a homeowner. Accidents involving ladders falling or people falling from ladders are not uncommon. The professionals at Priority Home Repair have invested in the right equipment for each job, and always practice safe methods of using the equipment.

Further details are available at https://priorityhomerepair.com

Another type of handyman project for the house’s exterior is cleaning gutters and downspouts of the accumulation of leaves and debris that may be present. Touching up scuffs to paint and siding will have the house looking its best, regardless of the season. In many instances, hiring the work done means that the customer gets the benefit of the skills and experience of the team of professionals, without the need for investing in expensive and sometimes bulky equipment which is only used occasionally.

Winterizing the building may include checking for air

She thought they were renovating the kitchen, he worked with a Seattle company on a bigger surprise

30 years into their marriage and nearly 20 years in the same house, Alvin and Joanne were ready for a refresh — not the marriage, Alvin emphasizes.

“It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long! We still feel like newlyweds who got married yesterday,” he says.

But the house was starting to feel a little dated, and the couple heard from a friend that Granite Transformations did really great work. As a former interior designer Joanne took the lead on most decisions, and then Alvin came up with a plan to celebrate their love at the same time.

“I said honey, I don’t think we can afford to do all this, and convinced her to postpone the fireplace and bathroom renovations. But of course in my head I thought ‘I’m going to make sure we get this done.”

Alvin worked with Granite Transformations to orchestrate a surprise, and they completed the bathroom and fireplace renovations while Joanne was away working as a flight attendant.

“The crew from Granite Transformations were great about working on the surprise. They’d bring paperwork to the school where I volunteer, separated invoices to keep things secret — things like that.”

Gorgeous transformation

Alvin emphasizes that his wife was the decision-maker for all the gorgeous design details, and he just said, ‘yes dear.’ But if he didn’t know her preferences, how did he pull together the surprise?

“The fireplace matches the marbled countertops in the kitchen, so that was a no-brainer,” Alvin says, and Joanne had already started to pick things out for the bathroom before they put the project on hold. “I said why don’t you put all your top picks in the folder for later on? And then I took all that to Granite Transformations.”
