Passing game improvements a bye-week focus for WVU football | Sports

As of this week, the good vibes stemming from the West Virginia University football team’s 27-21 double-overtime win over Baylor have faded and it’s back to the task at hand coming off a bye week for the Mountaineers.

That task is a tall one and unique one and it will begin on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium as WVU (2-1 overall, 1-1 Big 12 Conference) welcomes in Kansas (0-3, 0-2) for a noon kickoff. The game will air on Fox.

“It’s really unique. We’re the only ones,” WVU coach Neal Brown said of a stretch of five games in five weeks that now lies squarely in front of his team, a span that no other team in the Big 12 will face this season.

While there were obviously positive takeaways from the Mountaineers’ conquest of Baylor, there were plenty of evident deficiencies as well, particularly on offense and, more specifically, in the passing game.

Brown pointed out on Tuesday that the struggles aren’t necessarily represented in the team’s statistics. After all, the Mountaineers are averaging 263.7 passing yards per game entering this weekend, good enough for 26th out of 76 teams nationally and fourth best among Big 12 schools. West Virginia quarterback Jarret Doege is third among league throwers (241 yards per game) and fourth in completion percentage (66.3%).

Yet where the Mountaineers have yet to break through, at least on a consistent basis, is throwing the ball downfield and accounting for explosive plays. Doege’s average of seven yards per attempt is seventh in the Big 12 and 46th nationally.

DOD Rule Requires Contractors To Focus On Cybersecurity

Law360 (September 28, 2020, 10:25 PM EDT) — All defense contractors and subcontractors will be required to implement cybersecurity programs under a rule issued by the U.S. Department of Defense on Monday as part of a plan to attach minimum cybersecurity requirements to all Pentagon contracts.

Travelers Survey Shows Renewed Focus on Home Improvements During Pandemic

The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) today announced findings from its consumer pulse survey that measures perceptions about homeownership during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results indicate that consumers have been doing more projects around their homes since March, when the World Health Organization officially declared the pandemic.

As many families have transitioned to working from home and remote learning, the study shows that 41% of respondents appreciate their homes now more than ever. The survey indicates that nearly 1 in 5 consumers are in the market for a new home, while a large majority of respondents (75%) are making improvements to their current home, including:

  • Painting rooms (44%)
  • Starting a garden (41%)
  • Updating flooring (31%)
  • Painting the exterior (27%)
  • Building an outdoor play area (19%)
  • Undertaking a major renovation/remodel (10%)

The findings also reveal that consumers are focused on optimizing their home’s function. More than a quarter of respondents (26%) are interested in incorporating smart home technology, and 22% are interested in home security systems.

“People are placing a higher value on their homes, and the projects, repairs and remodels they are undertaking can have implications on their insurance,” said Michael Klein, Executive Vice President and President of Personal Insurance at Travelers. “Our representatives and network of independent agents can review coverage needs with homeowners to help ensure they have the right protection for one of their biggest financial investments.”
