34-year-old labour contractor arrested for raping tribal girl in Raigad

Raigad’s Pali police on Friday arrested a 34-year-old labour contractor for allegedly raping a minor girl. Police officials said that the accused and the 16-year-old girl were living together since January 2019 at his house, where the parents of the accused also stayed with him.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Patil allegedly raped the 16-year-old girl on multiple occasions until October. In her complaint, the victim said that she was scared and hence did not file a complaint till now.

Kirankumar Suryawanshi, deputy superintendent of police, said, “We received her complaint on Tuesday and after the preliminary investigation, we have arrested the accused. Initially, she had approached the Kasa police from where the case was transferred to Pali, where the alleged incident took place.”

The Labour Party has announced several policies to help New Zealanders “live free of discrimination” based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The policies include banning conversion therapy and working with schools to provide gender-neutral bathrooms.

The party’s Rainbow spokesperson Tāmati Coffey says more work needs to be done to “keep moving towards a more inclusive New Zealand”.

“We will pass a law to ban the harmful practice of conversion therapy. Conversion therapy is based on the misguided idea that people are wrong or broken because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This is fundamentally wrong,” he said.

“Conversion therapy has been linked to severe adverse mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation.

“It is a practice that causes harm and is out of place in the kind, inclusive and modern country we are.”

Two petitions were presented to Parliament in 2018 calling for a ban on conversion therapy. The Justice Select Committee responded at the time by saying that while there was agreement that conversion therapy was harmful, “more work needs to be done” before any decision is taken to ban it.

Labour MP Grant Robertson says it hasn’t banned the practice during its three years of governing because there wasn’t “full government support” for it.

“What we are now saying though is this will be something we will push in government and we will pass legislation,” he said.

“The kind of practices that attempt to change or suppress somebody’s sexuality are wrong and we need to make sure that we send a very clear message about that.”

Along with the ban, Labour MP Louisa Wall says the party will also

Brexit news: Labour leader blasted for siding with EU over Boris’ Brexit plan | Politics | News

The controversial Internal Market Bill passed its first Commons hurdle on Monday as MPs voted it through with a majority of 77. The Bill also completed the first day of committee stage without being changed, with an SNP amendment and Labour amendment both being defeated by the Government. But the Labour Party’s scrutiny of the Bill has been heavily criticised for “undermining the democratic choices of the British people”.

Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, told Express.co.uk: “Sir Keir Starmer wrote the key part of Labour’s 2019 manifesto on demanding a second referendum on the EU.

“He’s not just someone who wanted Remain, he wants to undermine the democratic choices of the British people.

“Furthermore, with the EU currently refusing to give Britain a Canada-style free trade deal, and instead bind us into EU law on state aid, keep control of our fishing and put a customs border between Great Britain and Northern Ireland – they’re treating us with contempt.”

Mr Holden added that Sir Keir is appearing to be on the side of the EU over the Withdrawal Agreement.

He said: “As such, we need to have the option of a ‘break glass moment’ to save the Union if, and only if, the EU refuses to give us the right deal by the end of the year.

“The fact that Labour would rather break up the UK than push back against the EU shows that under Starmer they’re the same as under Corbyn – which shouldn’t be a surprise because Starmer wrote Corbyn’s Europe policy.

“We need strong leadership on this and that’s what’s being provided by the Government.

“The question the British people need to ask themselves is ‘what side is Sir Keir Starmer on?'”
